Many of us who are biblical scholars have watched Mr. Obama's use, or should I say abuse, of the Bible with dismay.
Who can forget when he gave a speech mocking the ceremonial law of the Old Testament then saying something to the effect of, "How can you govern by the Sermon on the Mount?"
Well, he did it again at the National Prayer Breakfast on Thursday. I never understood that name since very little prayer, if any, takes place. Instead, perhaps it should be called the National Breakfast Gathering. The president quoted the Bible to justify punishing those who have worked hard, and most of whom are very generous givers, in order to take their money and give it to many of his constituencies who are always standing outside the doors of the White House with out-stretched hands.
Mr. Obama, in justifying his misguided policy, quoted Jesus in Luke 12:48: "From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked."
No, you do not have to have a seminary degree to know that Jesus is talking about individual stewardship in an individual's relationship with God.
For it is God who gives each person different portions of gifts, talents, and treasure to manage according to His sovereign will. It is God who entrusts people with what they have, not the government.
God is the One who will judge the faithfulness of each individual's stewardship and blessing, or lack thereof. In Luke 12:48, Jesus, God the Son, is exhorting individuals to be faithful and give generously without regret.
Understanding this, one has to wonder if Mr. Obama has replaced God with his administration. He must believe that when he says "much is given," he refers to what is given by the government; and "much is demanded," as that which is demanded by the government. This is 180 degrees opposite to the truth.
This is a very dangerous precedent. We have had egotistical presidents before, from both political spectrums, but never to my knowledge have we had one who saw himself as replacing God, or one who views his administration as acting on God's behalf or instead of God.
Misquoting the Scripture is a common practice by some politicians to advance their cause, but this abuse of the Scripture and viewing one's administration as the judge and executioner -- not for crimes, but for personal stewardship -- has reached a new low in egotism.
Mr. Obama needs to issue an immediate and urgent apology for his misuse and mangling of the Scripture.
Comment: With Obama using Christianity as his tool, it is ever more necessary that those of us who call ourselves Christian know the truth. We must be able to counter the deceptions used by him or any other person who would wish us evil. Socialism is evil in what it does to our individual God-given freedoms. Whether someone wants to install themselves as god or just to fleece others to pad their bank accounts and live the pampered life of the elite, we must be prepared to speak truth. Whether it is Christian truth or Constitutional truth; knowledge with wisdom is necessary.

Speaking of fleecing others? Watch the TV hucksters on Sunday morning. Send your seed money to God at their address and you will get 10 times the amount you send. Others may walk up and hand money to you or it may fall from the sky.

So many times, quotes from the Bible are used to justify an action without any understanding of the content of the quote. It is ignorance, pure and simple, but it fools some people..... usually the one most fooled is the one saying it.

No, you do not have to have a seminary degree to know that Jesus is talking about individual stewardship in an individual's relationship with God.
And it looks like you don't need a seminary degree to twist scripture to fit the grind of your particular ax...whatever it may be.

I believe you are correct. Boo and TX sound like they are embittered old men who never experienced the love of Jesus, by their own choosing.

The red print in the summation mentioned fleecing others. My reply was to that. Sorry if it offends others. I will stand by my observations. I can hold my own in personal attacks but my reply was to the article--not to those who attempt to belittle me. May I suggest that you can have your opinion and leave me the hell alone. This blog and comments is very entertaining......You seem to be so immersed in your delusions that you have completely lost your perspective. The truth is that the Bible has been interpreted, re-interpreted, people throughout history picking isolated quotes to prove their own agendas.......it's endless....for instance, somewhere in Corinthians God says that only virgins can marry....that is, only female virgins of course.....males are allowed to sow their "wild oats".....boys will be boys and all that.God says that those females that marry and are not virgins.....(they had a committee of dirty old men sticking their fingers in there to check), the "impure"...read non-virgin bride was killed....yet I don't see anyone of your ilk killing or advocating the killing of non-virgin brides, or even insisting that brides must be virgins in order to be legally married.......Yet Christians quote the Bible when they insist that God doesn't want same sex marriages.........Your purity and truth are obviously either a charade or a delusion.....which do you claim?
Your delusion goes so far as to believe, according to your red statement, that you are a holder of the truth.......that the truth is held by and only by those who have the same beliefs as you.............yet you charge others with arrogance.....good grief.....
Based on a true story.

Quoting YAYA1950: First off Alpine, GRIEF is NEVER GOOD!......all I'll say to you is, I'm as happy in MY delusions (your choice of words), as YOU ARE IN YOURS ......take that however you wish hon!
Actually, grief is often good.....a necessary and healthy phase of the process of living....You should try it some time, might help you see the world through a wider lens.......

I'm very sorry that I caused you pain.....that was not my intent. You may want to consider the progression of comments here. You post this blog and others that state your opinions as absolutes. When someone disagrees with you, instead of discussing the issues, your answers typically avoid the body of the comment and instead, make a personal insult.......Then when the person retaliates you think they are being nasty and you seem to be in denial of your own part.
I didn't mean to imply that you have never tasted grief......but you must know that "good grief" is just an expression......a favourite of Charlie Brown...........Now, how about discussing the ussuption made on your blog that everyone, including the US government should base their belief system on yours.

Sorry Rich, I don't agree with the conclusion you drew on these 2 (Boo and TX). Take myself for example, I believe I have a strong walk with God, but I still agree with their observation. Regretably, today, there are far too many who use the name of God to fleece others. Having experienced the love of God/Jesus is one thing, but having the knowledge/wisdom not to be fleeced is another. (Hosea 4:6 My people are destroyed from lack of knowledge.)
