I been just real busy working since Saturday week ago, and am just learning from reading on here about the deaths of two of the top people here, Destiny and Gentle Ben.
My heartfelt late condolences for both.
I'll miss my mails with Destiny the most. She had a way in lifting my spirit. And Gentle Ben was always decent to me, and that's what really mattered to me.

Who's gonna give their heart and soul to get to me and you? Lord I wonder, who's gonna fill their shoes?

Tell us how life was for you.

I was a kid and teenager throughout the 60's, but I remember quite a bit.

V as in Vette.
I took this snapshot with an old Polaroid camera in Scottsdale, Arizona in 1976. I drove this car from '73 to '79. It's a 1964 Corvette hard top convertible. It had a 327 ci. engine in it. It had 425 horse power with a Muncie tranny and a Hurst 4 speed in the floor, with a 3.75 rear end gear. It had chrome Hooker Headers on it from the manifold all the way to the end of the lake pipes. The 327 was bored out with popup pistons and a 3/4 race cam.
In 1975 I got it up to 180 mph on I-40 east going toward Nashville one bright sunshiny day. It still had more but I couldn't feel the steering anymore and that meant it was fixing to go airborne if I hadn't let off of it. Never tried that again. It scares hell out of me now to think I did that.
Btw, in 1975 Donnie Allison took the pole down at Daytona at 185 mph.
As 'The Beach Boys' sang, If she had a set of wings man I know she would fly.

I drove that old Vette back and forth many times between where I lived in Tennessee to the Phoenix, Arizona area where I was living with four other co-workers in Scottsdale. Just every once in a while I drove it over to Nevada where I worked.
In May of 1977 I drove it cross country from Tennessee all the way to Los Angeles, California in Hollywood because my girlfriend and future wife was terribly mad at me, and was basically through with me. Some 1,750 miles.
She had changed her phone number and I couldn't even talk to her. No Emails or cell phones back then you know. It worked. I stayed the entire summer. Her mom said it was romantic what I had done in making that trip.
What I mean about the car is, it was actually a very good car for all the traveling it did. It never failed me once.
In 1973 I paid $1,500 for that Vette. I sold it like a fool in '79 for $3,500.
I saw a '64 Vette identical to mine in one of those trader magazines last year. The man was asking $125,000 for it.
Makes my stomach hurt to even think about my mistake of selling it.
